Voting in person at a Voting Place?

Remember to bring IDs to show election workers who you are.

Option 1: Voter Information Letter & one piece of Photo ID

Acceptable Photo IDs:

  • Driver’s licence
  • Ontario photo card
  • Ontario health card
  • Canadian passport
  • Canadian citizenship card
  • Certificate of Indian Status
  • Canadian Forces ID card
  • Employee or student card
  • Nexus or Fast card
  • Any other identity card issued by a Canadian government

When presenting your photo ID, your appearance doesn't need to match the photo. You don't need to provide any information about your sex or gender expression when you go to vote.

Option 2: Two or more pieces of ID that together show your name, photo, age, address & citizenship

Name, Photo & Age:

  • Driver’s licence
  • Ontario photo card
  • Ontario health card

Citizenship Status:

  • Canadian passport
  • Canadian birth certificate
  • Canadian citizenship card
  • Certificate of Canadian citizenship
  • Certificate of naturalization
  • Certificate of Indian Status
  • Nexus or Fast card

Address (if not also on your same ID showing name, photo & age):

  • Mortgage, rental, or lease agreement
  • Income tax assessment notice
  • Property tax assessment
  • Utility bill (e.g., hydro, water, gas, phone, internet)
  • Bank or credit card statement
  • Pension plan statement
  • Insurance certificate, policy, or statement
  • Government statement of benefits
  • Pay stub or other record of current employment
  • T4 or T4A tax slip
  • Vehicle ownership or permit
  • Transcript or report card
  • Tuition statement
  • Letter from any of the following:
    • Student residence
    • Seniors’ residence
    • Long-term care facility
    • Shelter
    • Soup kitchen
    • Community-based residential facility

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We accept IDs within 6 months after their expiration date.

If at least one of your IDs is in its original format, your second piece can be a copy. Documents that were issued electronically (e.g., Voter Information Letter, eBill, etc.) count as originals.

If the name on your Voter Information Letter is different from the one on your photo ID, an election worker may ask you to make a sworn statement that you're the same person.

If you don’t have a Voter Information Letter, the names on your chosen ID documents have to be the same. However, you can use many different ID combinations to prove that you're eligible (see Option 2).
