Who's running for office

Markham's next municipal and school board election will be held on October 26, 2026.

Eligible persons can register as a candidate for the 2026 Markham Municipal Election starting on May 1, 2026 until August 21, 2026 (2 PM). Steps for how to register will be posted to this page closer to this date.

A person can run for Markham City Council or one of Markham's local school board trustee offices if they are:

At least 18 years old
A Canadian citizen
A resident, landowner, or tenant of Markham or the applicable school board's jurisdiction (or the spouse of one)
Not otherwise disqualified by law from holding municipal or school board office.
